Eleanor June Burton, age 83, of Windsor, California, died peacefully in her home on December 8, 2018 of natural causes. June was born on May 12, 1935 in Devault, Pennsylvania.
June grew up in rural Pennsylvania where she pushed banty roosters around in her doll carriage, raised steers for 4-H and learned to cook on a wood-fired range. She excelled at basketball in high school and in the summer of 1952 traveled with her family to northern California where her brother shipped off to the Korean War. During this trip, June met Donald Richard Burton (1930 - 1999) at his parent's motel in the town of Concord, California. It was love at first sight. After a long-distance courtship, June and Don were married on June 13,1953 at the Bethel Baptist Church, in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, shortly after June's eighteenth birthday.
June and Don raised three children together, living throughout California and Pennsylvania over the years. June was a nursery school teacher, a bookkeeper, a driver for Meal on Wheels, managed an apartment complex with Don in Santa Rosa, California, and finally retired from Sonoma County Human Services in 1995. June and Don built a retirement home in Willits, California and enjoyed their family life and traveling together until Don's passing in 1999. After Don's passing, June regularly volunteered at the national offices of Habitat for Humanity where a highlight of her experiences there was attending Sunday school taught by President Jimmy Carter.
June is survived by her brother Joseph; her three children: Richard (Toni), Susan (Steve) and Laurie (Scott); her three grandchildren: Meredith (Josh), Rob (Dianne) and
Ryan (Katia); and her ten great-grandchildren: Nicole, Faith, RJ, Jackson, Payton, Cami, Gavin, Ryan, Aryanna and Mila.
