James ‘Jim’ Richard Mooney, 79, returned to his heavenly home on May 4, 2018. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. He was surrounded by his wife and four daughters in his final days.
Jim was born to the late Elton and Gertrude Mooney in Bend OR on April 14, 1939. He graduated from Santa Clara University in 1961 with a degree in Business and later followed in his father’s footsteps pursuing a career in the lumber industry with Louisiana Pacific and later as a credit manager with Cal-Wood Door.
Jim was blessed with a large and loving family. He married Kathleen Margaret Cress on July 7, 1962. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage. At the start of their marriage he was a First Lieutenant in the Air Force. Eventually they settled in Santa Rosa and spent the past 42 years in their home, much of the time enjoying the beautiful backyard that Jim designed and nurtured.
Jim helped raise his four girls with much love and patience. He was a devoted father who coached all his daughters in softball and attended all of their events. He often took his family on long road trips with stops at water holes. He was active in the Resurrection Parish. From the beginning, he dedicated his children to God and encouraged them to explore their own faith. In his later years, he and his wife loved to travel. He often said his highlights were Israel, Spain, and Ireland.
Jim was a jokester at heart. He always had a twinkle in his eye and he soon let you in on the joke. He smiled with everyone and had a laugh that filled a room. His grandchildren brought him even more joy and he enjoyed talking to them and hearing about their adventures.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kathy; his daughters Angela (Andrew), Heather, Jennifer (Scott) and Shannon; his grandchildren Joshua, Kelsey, Erin, Conor, Hannah, Ryan, Faith and Roisin; and his brothers Frank and John.
There will be a funeral at Resurrection Parish on June 1, 2018 at 1 PM with a reception to follow at the family home. Father David Shaw will officiate the service.
