HERRERA, Virginia G. 82, passed away peacefully on May 10, 2019 at home in Windsor, CA. Virginia was born in Hueneme (Oxnard), CA on October 3, 1936 to Jennie Jaramillo (California) and Joseph Matos (Puerto Rico). Virginia considered herself a native of San Francisco and lived many years there, as well as, in San Pablo and she eventually settled in Windsor.
Virginia was the devoted wife, through sickness and in health, of Paul Herrera for 40 years. She worked as a social worker in San Francisco for many years and was always willing to help those in need. Virginia was a loyal fan of the San Francisco Giants and a San Francisco 49ers “Faithful".
Virginia was most proud of all of her family and always wanted to see everyone happy. She wanted the world for her children. Even when times were tough financially, she made the impossible happen. Virginia never missed a chance to give a thoughtful gift for a special occasion. Her hobbies were home decorating, second-hand shopping, watching soap operas, and spending time with her family.
Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Jennie Matos; her beloved husband of 40 years, Paul Herrera; and her sister, Elsie Durkin.
Virginia is survived by her siblings: Sylvia Puccinelli (Mario), Joseph Matos Jr. (Mary), Isabel Cruz and Jeanette Fong (Ted); her children: Jerry Basler, Belinda Basler, Cynthia Montalvan (Jose), Deborah Jordan (Warren), and Elenora Basler; eight grandchildren,14 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. She is also survived by her Goddaughter, Ashley, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Virginia’s giving heart, thoughtfulness, sense of humor, and special hand-written cards (for birthdays and holidays) will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Family and friends are invited to attend visitation on Tuesday, May 21, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m., with a vigil service being held at 6:00 p.m. at the Windsor Healdsburg Mortuary, 9660 Old Redwood Highway in Windsor, CA 95492. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 8400 Old Redwood Highway, Windsor, CA 95492. Private interment to be held.
