Virginia Wallace

April 22, 1929 ~ March 25, 2018 (age 88)

Virginia Wallace, 88, passed away on March 25, 2018 in Santa Rosa. Virginia was born in Bogota, Texas on April 22, 1929 and was the youngest of 6 children. The family was
a poor and moved many times following the work that was available during the depression. They were a true grapes of wrath family. Eventually, they came to California in a traditional migrant family way, her father did not have a driver’s license so her brother Dee who was a year older drove the car stopping every night alongside the road, unloading the mattress tied to the top of the car and prepared for a night’s sleep. They arrived in Sacramento, Perkins to be exact, and began working in the hop fields. Some of her family arrived in Healdsburg and worked for Grace Brothers. At that time, she met and married Leroy Elbert Wallace on September 6, 1947, she was 18 years old. In 1949, Leroy Dee was born, then in 1951 Mary Ruth was born, and in 1952 Ronny Lee was born. She cherished and loved all her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and great grandchildren. They moved to Chiquita Road in 1958 and remained there until Leroy Elbert passed on in 2000. While on Chiquita Road, Leroy and Virginia made many good friends that have lasted until this very day.

Virginia was self schooled as an LVN and worked caring for elderly and disabled people during her career; she also worked seasonally for Sunsweet Dried Prunes until they folded up shop and move away. She moved to Windsor Country Mobile Home Park and became active in the homeowner’s association, filled food bags for those less fortunate, and filled her time knitting and sewing projects that she enjoyed. Virginia was very involved in the American Legion Auxiliary, helping veterans at Yountville Veterans Home, and raising money through the Poppy program. Virginia participated in Memorial Day Celebrations, Flag Ceremonies and patriotic events.

Virginia is preceded in death by her husband Leroy Elbert Wallace; parents: Zadie and Cass Cradduck; siblings: Charlie, Jessie, Marie, Dee, and Margaret. She is survived by her children: Leroy Dee, Mary Ruth, and Ronny Lee; grandchildren; nieces and nephews, and great grandchildren.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 31, 2018 from 12pm-2pm with a funeral service to follow at 2pm at Windsor Healdsburg Mortuary, 9660 Old Redwood Hwy, Windsor, CA 95492.
