Betty Jane (Hagan) Kovatch

Betty Jane Kovatch passed away at the age of 87 on 11/15/19 after a 10-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was born in the summer of 1932 in Topeka, Kansas to George and Hyla Hagan. Jane is pre-deceased by her parents and older sister, Joanne Armstrong who passed away at the age of 62 in 1993.

Jane is survived by her older sister Nancy Kauffeld of Fountain Valley, Ca. and her younger brother George S. Hagan of Fremont, Ca.

In 1942, as a young girl, Jane and her family moved to Orange County, Ca., where she attended Lathrop Junior high and Santa Ana high school before meeting and marrying her high school sweetheart, George Anthony “Tony” Kovatch, who preceded Jane in death in 2013 after 62 years of marriage. After marriage, Jane and George lived in Santa Ana, Tustin and Orange, California for several years where Jane opened and managed a successful dress shop named Carri Wicket, George worked for the City of Orange, Ca. in the Planning Department before a job transfer for George (Planning Director of Sonoma County) brought them to Santa Rosa in 1967.

Jane was a devoted parent to daughters Toni Kovatch-Mercer (Ron), Kristi Kovatch, and son Michael Kovatch (Carol) all of Santa Rosa, Ca.. She was the adoring grandmother to 7 grandchildren, Renee Scott- Estrada of Windsor, Ca., Robin Scott of Lake Forest, Ca., Brittney Yolo (Adam) of Napa, Ca., Erin Yolo (Fitz) of Santa Rosa, Ca., Keaton Kovatch of San Diego, Ca., Riley Kovatch of Santa Monica, Ca. and Victoria Kovatch of Santa Rosa, Ca. and she also had 7 great grandchildren, Janae O’Bryant (Kelly) of Virginia Beach, Va., Hannah Estrada of Windsor, Ca., Regan Estrada of Portland, Or., Charlie Bridges of Napa, Ca., Margaret Minnigerode of Santa Rosa, Ca., Wesley Bridges of Napa, Ca. and Cruze Kovatch of Santa Rosa, Ca. and one great, great grandson, Remy O’Bryant of Virginia Beach, Va.. Aside from being a devoted wife, mother and great, great grandmother, Jane generously contributed countless hours of her time to many charities. She was an active member in the Sonoma County Welfare League for many years in addition to several other charities.

Jane's other interests included socializing with her friends, dancing, bridge, reading and traveling. In their later years, Jane and George were able to travel extensively throughout Europe, Africa, Asia and the United States, which was a dream come true for Jane. Jane will be deeply missed by her family and all those who knew and loved her.

The Kovatch Family would like to extend their gratitude to all of the loving caretakers past and present at Sunrise Assisted Living and Terrace Club and Heartland Hospice for their attentiveness and loving care.
