Gloria Martinez, 83, was called home to the Lord on January, 31, 2020. Gloria was born August 13, 1936 in Sacramento, CA to Bens and Celia Martinez and received her High School GED and took counseling courses from the Junior College.
Gloria had a spirit of excellence about her where she poured herself into everything she set out to accomplish and did it to the best of her ability. She gave her best to every part of her life. Gloria’s family and friends have seen how much sacrifice, love, and courage she lived in her daily life and easily gave of herself to others.
For 30 years Gloria worked for various restaurants and food services. She also worked for Yosemite Business men’s club for 15 years as pantry coordinator, where she was told she made the "best" sandwiches. She worked part time as a Elderly Companion and Caregiver for the last 12 years of her life.
Gloria had a warm personality and was a people person. She loved people, her hobbies were cooking for her family and friends, sharing her strong Christian faith, and traveling. She was always interested in her family and people in general and who they were. Her family and friends will miss her smile, hugs, fancy meals, and her famous “Pineapple champagne cake” she loved to prepare and that her family and friends loved. She was passionate about people to know Jesus Christ, whom she led many to Him. Gloria would often sacrifice her own desires to benefit someone else- a family member, or friend, or someone in need. She had a lot of love in her heart to give.
Gloria is survived by her children: Arnold and Tina Barkhorn, and Yolanda Martinez; her grandchildren: Arnold Barnhorn, Jr. and Lexi Perez; her great grandchildren: Phoenix John Perez and Riley Perez; her siblings: Ben Martinez, Sylvia Sanchez, Philip Martinez, Steven Martinez, James Martinez, Robert Martinez, Linda Harper, Mario Martinez, Domonique Martinez, and Monica Valenzuela. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
